Okinawan Kabuki(kumiodori)

The August dance of Yabu, which has a history of 140 years, has been designated as an intangible folk cultural asset in Okinawa Prefecture and is one of Okinawa's leading folk performing arts. “August Dance” begins on the day of “face-off” before and after the Bon Festival in the middle of July in the lunar calendar. Interviewing means determining the performance and performers of the August dance of the year. On this day, the “Yabu Dance Company” will be formed, which will be responsible for everything from the practice of August dance to the preparation, performance, and comfort party. The August dance is performed for three days, “preparation”, “new day”, and “farewell”, and about 30 performances such as dance, kyogen, and group dance are performed until late at night.
